Frequently Asked Questions

Are residents allowed to go on trips out of the facility?
Private pay residents may go out of the facility for day or overnight trips with family members and others who have been approved by the responsible party. Medicare Part A covered residents would normally not be able to go on overnight trips. The Charge Nurse should be notified ahead of time to assess that the resident is stable before leaving. The person taking the resident must sign out at the nurse’s station and notify the Charge Nurse upon their return. Throughout the year, the Hillcrest staff may plan out-of-facility group outings for residents, and will contact the responsible parties for permission.

Are residents allowed to bring personal possessions?
Personal possessions such as pictures, bedspreads, radios, walkers, and wheelchairs are encouraged. For safety reasons, we discourage bringing in scatter rugs and cannot allow heating pads, electric blankets or heaters. Our maintenance staff can assist patients and families with room logistics as needed. TVs are provided in each room. We strongly recommend that all valuables be left outside the facility. This includes but is not limited to valuable jewelry or clothing. Up to $50.00 may be placed with our Business Office for weekday distribution to residents if desired. Hillcrest is not responsible for money or valuables kept on the resident or in the resident’s room.

As a resident, will I have access to a phone?
Phone jacks are located by each bed. The Admissions Coordinator and Social Work staff can assist families in setting up phone service if desired. A phone is located in the lobby for use to make local calls. Cellular phones may also be brought in for the resident’s use in the facility. Wheelchairs are provided by the facility for transportation to medical appointments, to the beauty shop, and the rehabilitation department. If the resident desires a wheelchair on a full-time basis for personal use, one may be rented from the facility or the family may bring one in.

What about fire drills?
Fire drills and equipment tests
occur on a regular basis. If this
happens when you are in the
facility, please follow all
instructions from the staff.
